Week of the Young Child
The Week of the Young Child is time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy, and to celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children. Join us in celebrating all week with these fun activities:
Music Monday (April 13) - Through music, children develop math, language, and literacy skills. On a daily basis, PPRS staff provides children with opportunities to express themselves through music and movement. Please join us at 4:30 in our lower level for a performance by John Duggleby, the Chicken Dancer. John will perform his show "Boogie in the Barnyard" for our children and families to join in and sing along with.
Storytelling Tuesday (April 14) - Storytelling is not only entertaining, but it is also an important part of developing language and literacy skills. Storytelling helps develop a child’s imagination and builds their problem solving skills. It strengthens their ability to think creatively about mathematical operations while developing language skills. It also brings cultural awareness to children. Please join us at 4:00 today for story time in our lower level. A local librarian will be sharing a variety of stories with our children.
Work Together Wednesday (April 15) - When children build together they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills. There will be building materials (boxes) in room 125. Children will have the opportunity throughout the day to be creative and build with these materials.
Artsy Thursday (April 16) - Children develop creativity, social skills, and fine motor skills through using a variety of art mediums. Throughout the day in room 125, your child will have the opportunity to create a their own master pieces. Stop by and see what they have made!
Family Friday (April 17) - Please join us as we celebrate all children and families! We will be offering popcorn to take home with you at the end of the day. Please make sure that you take a heart and enjoy doing a special activity to celebrate your child. The heart activities are located on the bulletin board across from Shelly’s office.
Mark your calendars! Student pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 9th & Friday, April 10th. Infants, Toddlers, and our two year olds (Room 110) will have their pictures taken on Thursday, April 9th. Our two 1/2 year old children, three year olds, and 4K will have their pictures taken on Friday, April 10th.
Extra Clothing Reminder
Think Spring! As the weather gets warmer and the snow FINALLY starts to melt, we would greatly appreciate all children bringing an extra set of clothing to be left in your child's cubby. These items should include: pants, socks, underwear, and a shirt. We notice that even though we are wearing our snowpants and boots, we still get wet!
Please welcome Samantha Mangold to our Pleasant Prairie Renaissance School team! Samantha is currently attending Herzing University and will be supporting all of our classrooms. Amy Orlowski is also new to our team. She is currently doing her practicum placement in our two 1/2 year old room. Amy will assist us in our toddlers and our two year old classrooms.
Year-End Tax Statements
We have your year end tax statements ready! Please stop by the office to pick yours up.
Watch for information on our upcoming Butter Braid fundraiser. All money raised goes towards purchasing supplies and equipment for the classrooms. We appreciate your help selling these tasty pastries!
Welcome, new hires!
We are excited to announce that we have hired several new employees.Ms. Alyssa will be co-teaching with Ms. Jamie in our 4K classroom. Alyssa is familiar with our curriculum and with the students in this room, as she did her student teaching with Ms. Allie. Ms. Jamie has been with PPRS for many years and will be an outstanding teacher for the children of this classroom.
Ms. Elizabeth will also be joining our team. Elizabeth is currently attending Carthage College and is majoring in Special Education and Elementary Education. Elizabeth will primarily be working in the afternoons in our 3 & 4-year-old classrooms.
Ms. Caryn will also be joining our team. Caryn is currently attending Gateway for a degree in Nursing. She will be working with students in all of our classrooms.
We would like to thank all of our families for their support and patience as we went through the hiring process in replacing Ms. Allie! Ms. Jamie and Ms. Alyssa will do an amazing job with these students!
As our enrollment continues to grow, we will also continue to look for quality teachers. If you know of someone you feel would be a great fit for the children at our center, please refer them to Shelly.
We will be holding our parent teacher conferences in February & March.
The Infant classrooms will hold them the week of February 16-20; Toddler classrooms will hold them February 23-27. Our 2 and 2-1/2 classrooms will hold them March 2-6; Room 136 (3-year-olds) will hold them March 9-13; and our 4K classroom will hold them March 16-20. Please see your child's teacher for a sign up sheet. Your child's teacher is excited to share your child's portfolios with you. If you choose not to have a conference, please sign a waiver form with your child's teacher.
